Extra-curricular

​Brookfield State School offers a range of extra-curricular activities for students before, during and after school, including:

Chess Club:

Chess Club is held at lunch time once per week.  A chess coach is employed to teach chess to interested children in Years 1 to 6.  Lessons are one hour in duration and cost $5 per week. During Terms 2 and 4, children compete in a chess tournament.  Winners receive trophies and medals.

School Choirs:

Brookfield State School has three choirs: Junior Choir (Years 1 and 2); Intermediate Choir (Years 3 and 4) and Senior Choir (Years 5 and 6).  Rehearsals are either before school or during lunch periods.  Choirs are voluntary and not auditioned. 

Instrumental Music:

Instrumental Music tuition is available for stringed instruments and brass, woodwind and percussion.  Lessons are free of charge and are held during school time.  An instrument hire fee and music charge is included.  A commitment to an ensemble or band is required and rehearsals of these groups are generally held before school.

Extension Support:

A Gifted Education Facilitator is employed two days per week to work with classroom teachers to plan and implement opportunities to extend more able students.  For more information, talk with your child's teacher or contact the office.

Brisbane Writer's Festival:

Each year, Year 4 students from Brookfield attend Word Play as part of the Brisbane Writer's Festival held at the Cultural Precinct of Southbank Parklands.  Word Play gathers together bright and curious young minds for a celebration of literature, philosophy, science and exploration in an exciting program for students. 

Kids' S.T.E.M:

Kids' S.T.E.M. Convention is an innovative and successful learning initiative designed for the benefit of Middle Phase students in Years 6 to 9. This ground-breaking initiative commenced in 2007 and is a successful annual event for Middle Phase students in State Primary and High Schools. The Convention targets students who seek out new challenges in their learning in the Science, Technology, and Engineering and Mathematics. Students set their own learning goals, desire to be independent in the learning context, question existing theories, and knowledge, and are confident to share their research findings.  Participation in the Convention is open to Brookfield State School students in Years 5 and 6.

Run Club:

Run club is conducted on the oval on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8am, please see the office staff or check the newsletter for more information.

Soccer Club:

Soccer sessions are conducted on the oval on Friday mornings from 7:45am, please see the office staff or check the newsletter for more information.
